A very special Composition...

Have you ever seen magnolia and pink cherry trees blooming side by side? Here in Munich it was an unusual view this year. Normally these trees don't bloom at the same time. So this sight was truly devine. And as usual it was gone much too quickly. But at least I have the images for you to enjoy...

Before they disappear into Oblivion...

It somehow makes me always sad when the magnolia are gone - I mean the blossoms not the trees. It makes me melancholic because then it comes to my mind that spring is over here in our region, summer - if there is one - is short and soon starts the fall season which is not too bad of course for a colour freak such as I am and when the weather is gracious. BUT... spring time, in all its glory and new hopes is by far the best. What's your favourite season?

A Rarity: White Magnolia Blossoms

Here is an absolute rarity: white magnolia. I think I slowly know all magnolia trees in Munich (this is nearly a joke) and have visited and photographed them all (of course not) but I have discovered only one magnolia tree with completely white blossoms. Not a magnolia stellata but a "regular" magnolia tree. What a beauty! Unfortunately I could not get closer than this.

I had to shoot blind i.e. I had to hold the camera as high as possible - because there was a high fence between the street and the tree and no possibility to peak through it. I could not see at all what I was doing, not to speak of checking the data. So I am really happy about the results of these snapshots...

The Fly likes 'em too...

In the fugacity of dying blossoms can lie a great beauty. Does this sound morbid? But it is true.

When blossoms such as these - magnolia - are fading they somehow change their texture. From being fleshy and nearly reminiscent of leather sometimes - if you look close at a blossom - in their juvenile freshness, they change to a different texture before they lose their form. They suddenly seem to be made of fabric, old silk perhaps with the spots of age or change into an even paperlike consistence. But they are still beautiful.

This is what fascinates me so very much about magnolia blossoms - they remind me of a beautiful woman, aging with dignity and grace and keeping her beauty till the end.

More than just Blossoms...

Did it ever come to your mind that blossoms are more than just blossoms? So many people walk past them, never realizing what beauty is offered to them by nature. Their whole life is centered around their job, their kids, a husband - in the meanwhile mostly in this order. Isn't this neglecting life entirely? Your life? What is life for you?

Blossoms of Magnolia Stellata in white...

The last images of my favourite blossom tree for this year. The perfume of this little tree was beyond words - I just could have stood there for hours and continue to stick my nose into those lovely blossoms (btw - the owner whom I asked for permission to photograph - had not even realized that the magnolia had such a strong and lovely fragrance - well - isn't it often like this?)

Blossoms of the Queen - Magnolia Stellata

This year I managed to find quite a few Magnolia Stellata which is not quite easy. Either the blossoms are not open yet or too far gone...
The perfume of this one was exuberant!!! I hardly could take my nose off...
